(Proposal) Safety Protocols Re-write
Proposer:
@Bee @Franzi

I am a member of the Board, as well as KORG 2020-21.
I am an ex board member and we decided after KB 2019 that the protocols need an update.
The advice process
Information gathered before posting
I have talked in advance to @CJ Yetman regarding this, as well as this being brought up in discussion last year (2020) as part of the KB KORG planning.
I have also asked for advice from Patrick, the ranger lead on shift during the eviction, Kinder Kiez and current board members.

The proposal
Background
There has been an update necessary since last years' planning began for Kiez Burn in order to make sure the protocols fit the community better and are relevant to the land also. Following some escalation of events in the 2019 Kiez Burn it has been mentioned by previous Site Leads that more clarity could be achieved.
The proposal
Here are the current protocols:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cEm-6IrxJo__Ffxrld_DC2stQrVN78KEdoTHqQ8W_Po/edit
(We would like this also to be translated into German, but I am not going to be personally accountable for that as it would probably be detrimental if I did it myself. However if there are folk stepping up to help with language mastery skills to share then it would be the goal to have both English and German language formats available to the community).
Implementation Plan:
Board to sign off
Translation to German - already flagged with @julian
-
Hand over to realizers
Realizers than train their areas on the safety protocols
Protocols printed and foiled by realizers for their area. Every area needs a hard copy.
Update 7.7.21:
Here is the updated version after seeking advice from all mentioned parties. I actively talked to everyone and invited them to co-edit the doc with me. I have marked all changes that have been made. In a nutshell: add firemarshalls, add eviction process, change after advice from kinderkiez, smaller edits after discussions with @Purzel

Please review the document and add in any comments or qq you might have. This is still up for debate and by no means final :)
The current board @Mareike @Cris @Veroca R. Sala @Professor Kaos @jck @Alejandro Pereda @Bee - please review and share qq or concerns. Once its all good from your site. Please give a "go". (happy to sit down and walk you through the protocols)
For the realizers @River Aleks @Jessie @Cris @Purzel @CJ Yetman please read the sections that are affecting your area and share if you have any concerns. (Comment in the doc)
People that worked with the protocols in the past: @Remy Schneider @waldo
Note: I have not updated the graphics, will do that after we agree on the protocol :)
Update 8.7.21:
Franzi has taken over the realizer role for this, and as 'Protocols Secretary' will be presenting the new updated protocols at the next Board meeting 19/20th June for approval.
When a decision was reached, write on top of the thread:

If we meet online to go through the Proposal, I would join and try to help (or at least learn). I don't feel self-confident enough to just change different areas by myself.

Hey folks, sounds great! Two thoughts from my side:
they need to be translated in German and firemarshalls, security etc need to be onboarded to the new protocols. (this has been a problem in the past since they like to do "their own thing" which is not necessarily in line with how we run events)
they obviously need to be compliant with German law and should be signed off by all board members. So strong advice to some proper research on requirements and guidelines for event related security protocols. otherwise, it might get tricky if there is a case.
Franzi Tue 16 Mar 2021 4:21PM
and then a question: so is everyone just adding in the document? is someone owning this? is there a kick off to discuss who does what?
My recommendation would be to have a realizer, to schedule an intake call with all mentioned folks, collect all the feedback, re-write the protocol based on feedback and go through 1-2 iterations, then have someone review it based on German law and compliance and then give it to translation, train all welfare/ first aid/ security/ firemarshalls etc for implementation
Franzi Tue 16 Mar 2021 4:29PM
You also would want inout from @Jan Thomas @waldo Patrick Boadu (cant tag him), Remy (cant tag her), Kai Gutzeit (Dr Goodtimes) for welfare

I think it is a bit a pity to be editing a historical document rather than creating a 2021 copy for it.
Besides that, I actually believe our safety protocols were fucking fantastic. Yes, they were inspired by Nowhere, but have been edited and adjusted throughout the years.
I would highly advise against just ditching them or changing them without a deep discussion.

Hey folks, I am done with the update. It can be found here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YLF5jbDiSHnPs9Jyf1M1qScyc2HXV3JvtD4bKXDJjds/edit?usp=sharing
I have also updated the thread with the implementation plan :)
I tried to do it as best as possible based on all the advice I seeked.. looking forward to receive your feedback!

Hey folks, just a reminder...deadline is this week Friday so we can get them in time translated etcetc
Franzi Mon 26 Jul 2021 12:53PM
The protocols are closed for further editing now and will go to translation.

Sorry for the late response @Franzi - The updated "Missing Child" protocol is perfect ❤️

Hans (from fire/first aid/security) asked to be included in this (and I think it would be great to have his input)... not sure if he's on Talk much, so we should reach out to him otherwise.
