Why this thread?

There comes as consequence of a request ( on facebook and telegram) to participants to not bring it GHB into our events due to its high risk and after 2 unfortunate incidents at the Burn Night (decom party) related to this substance which got the site lead to manage them in one shift. A person was kicked out of the club, refusing the ambulance but remaining nonself-reliant and without autonomy.

As there was a very long thread on Telegram Kiez Burn channel, the topic raised opinions about the need for education so I opened this space for community members to share information.

There isn't currently any proposal to ban anything, at least not from my side or the Board side who have debated about it in the last meeting on 29.11.12 and agreed that education and preparation was the way to go.

Raising awareness about the topic comes first to understand the need for education not from the handful of people highly involved but from the community as a whole. Still, the topic is heated and controversial. I welcome this discussion and community members to talk about it. If the community thinks there should be a ban then a proposal could be carried out by them and or/ event organizers.

Now the community took over and shared concerns, POV, and even made an open question (poll) here on this thread about whether people feel more secure when these substances are banned at events/clubs. Which still doesnt mean there is or will be a ban in place.

No.

I feel it is not our place to ban any substance. We can’t police it, we can’t enforce it. I appreciate the spirit of trying to protect people from harm but this is going to far. All kind of things can be abused and we don’t ban them. Alkohol being one of them.

Will the ban help eliminate a danger of somebody getting poisoned? Do we have precidents of accidental G intake?

I don't feel safe at the events baning, repressing something, as that goes against our community principles. Education against idiotic and misuse, prohibition will just sweep this under the rug and we will have to deal with that anyway.

Yes.

I cannot seem to find statistical evidence of it's dangers right now, but with no other club-drug have I heard so many anecdotal death or near-death stories of use. Whilst we cannot as a community physically restrict participants from using such a chemical, cultivating it as taboo within our culture could save lives of those without the resources or awareness to adequately and self-reliantly research the risks of such a chemical.

I came here from a FB post from the e.V. Reading this thread now, it is unclear to me what the proposal is. My comment is primarily with the main event in mind.

I believe a policy explicitly restricting certain drugs will lead to hidden & more dangerous use & behavior. I find it hard to see ranger or site lead volunteers enforcing a restrictive policy based on possession only.

In club settings where people are paid to exercise certain roles, I can see this being different.

Hi, Im gonna clarify how we got here and what about that FB post since it seems to have not been clear at all, for this reason, Im no longer writing copy for kiez Burn and will try to contribute in other aspects instead of UNcontributing with comms 😆:

The Facebook post doesnt say anything about banning anything or anyone.

It was a clear request to participants to not bring it into our events due to its high risk. The banning is an (understandable) misinterpretation of the announcement which only states what the current event organizers dont want at Kiez Burn events - after 2 unfortunate incidents at the Burn Night related to this substance which got the site lead to manage them in one shift. A person was kicked out of the club, refusing the ambulance but remaining nonself-reliant and without autonomy.

As there was a very long thread on Telegram Kiez Burn channel (yes, comments are enabled on each announcement and people currently seem to be way keener to participate and opine on the telegram channel than on Facebook). The topic raised opinions about the need for education so I opened this space for community members to share information.

There isn't currently any proposal to ban anything, at least not from my side or the Board side who have debated about it in the last meeting on 29.11.12 and agreed that education and preparation was the way to go.

Now The community took over and shared concerns, POV, and even made an open question (poll) here on this thread about whether people feel more secure when these substances are banned at events/clubs. Wich still doesnt mean there is or will be a ban in place.

Hoping this brings some light and clarity around this thread/discussions

Is it a confirmed G accident - with blood test from hospital?

I was involved in one of the accidents as a first responder and was assured that there were no substances involved, and I asked discretely, but insistently.

If it is a confirmed accident I believe we should investigate it and take action including legal to ppl who have caused it.
