Wandering Rangers
Wandering Rangers are participants at Kiez Burn who volunteer a portion of their time in service of the safety and well-being of the community. They act as non-confrontational community mediators, providers of reliable information, facilitators of public safety, and navigators of the edge of chaos. They encourage self reliance, individual accountability, and shared responsibility. They mediate situations involving citizens, the organization, or cooperating agencies. When circumstances dictate, they act to uphold the principles of our community.

Day or night, pairs of Rangers can be found engaging with the community, enjoying the art, and always ready to help sort things out.

@cristinaolano what supplies do we have from last year?

One pair one shift at all times or two pairs this year? Closed Sat 20 Apr 2019 12:00AM

Last year was two pairs, but was noted could have been one at a time. This will affect the number of spots and amount of supplies

two pair

If we really have double as many participants this year, we should double up the rangers, too

two pair

Also nice to have it mixed gender on duty if possible (or a mix of genders for the team on incl. ranger lead/ onsite lead/ medics etc)

one pair

Based on last year's experience I'd suggest 1 pair at daytime (except maybe on the 1st day) and 2 pairs at night. There was really not much to do for wonderers, especially during the day. Quite a few volunteers voiced they felt underutilized and would rather have spent their volunteering time on something they felt needed more. We should keep in mind that there are many other functions at Kiez Burn that also need volunteers... At night there was more to do, also we had most no-shows at night...

trash bags
  • PONCHOS! for the rain.
  • As snacks, something like chocolate and "dextro energy" are cool things.
  • As for the manual, I don't see the need of carrying it around. I would rather encourage having learned it before hand, attend the "compulsory" training and keep a pair of copies at the HQ. Something in between could be having like a short version of it, a list of the most important things written in a single (A4) piece of paper.
  • Water guns are fun :)
  • Bubbles=contaminating?
