How COVID-19 impacts Kiez Burn 2020

Dear Kiez Burn friends, 

Today we are writing to you with heavy hearts. We are all aware of the challenges facing Germany and many other countries with COVID-19, and many of you have been asking how this impacts Kiez Burn 2020. The Board met yesterday and made the very hard decision that Kiez Burn will not take place in June this year in the way that we had envisioned it.

This decision was not taken lightly and with the principle of Community/Civic Responsibility in mind we agreed unanimously that this precautionary decision should be made before we start to sell tickets. This means, effective immediately, we will deactivate the Dreams platform, we will not proceed with ticket sales, and we will not move forward with securing basic infrastructure like permits, toilets, etc. 

We will, however, remain open to seeing what the spontaneous possibilities are in the coming months. Although Kiez Burn can not take place as we imagined in June, there are still possibilities of (smaller/later) gatherings once it has been deemed safe. More information and imagining will take place on Talk. This  shouldn’t stop us from dreaming of post-pandemic get-togethers.

With all in-person activities on hold, we will focus on creating a brighter and stronger online space for people to thrive within the Kiez Burn community. Several projects will be ongoing including a review of our protocols and principles - fortifying and practicing the advice process online - and increasing our digital security. 

There are also plenty of initiatives which help you to stay connected with Kiez Burn Folks already. We invite you to further use the Kiez Burn Facebook Group as well as Talk (the 2020 planning group and the Corona task force group) to set up ways to stay connected with other burners during the lockdown.

Keep your hands clean, and your vision high. For all of these clouds, a silver lining can be found this spring, so long as you keep your eyes open for it. Take care of yourself, but still do what you can to be of service to others in these challenging times. Hold onto your Burning Spirit, dear siblings, we will embrace us again soon.
