2021 Dreams Review - Post Mortem

D Diarmaid Public Seen by 45

A thread to discuss the dreams review process, and the decisions that have been made on the dreams granting process.

This year, dreamers were not allowed to spend all of their tokens on a single dream - there was a maximum setting of 3 tokens per person, which was changed to 5 at the the last minute in order to accomadate big dream budget, which would have been difficult/impossible to fund otherwise. Was this the right decision and how could it have been improved?

The LNT grant was not very well explained. What are the criteria behind this grant and how should it be applied? Surely every responsable burner will already leave no trace, so does this apply to everyone?

Only allowing transport of 20% didn't work out well. How should we change this to work better? There was a note in the dreamers manual if all they were looking for was transport costs, then this was allowed. .

Should we provide extra tickets to children? So that they can vote for dreams as they want to, as opposed to sharing it with thier parents.

Communication was a mess - how should we communicate with dreamers?

Misunderstanding with tickets - getting your dream funded does not guareentee a ticket, it just gives allows you to apply for one.

btw. i got a lot of feedback from people who are unable to vote, cant find a vote button even if logged in with the right email adress.

Oh... that decision was actually made in order to give bigger Dreams like yours a better chance of getting funded. Since your minimum goal was so high, it seemed that it would be nearly impossible for you and other big dreams to reach that target (as you said). It was brought to our attention that you'd have a better chance if we opened it up a little so that fewer people would need to vote in order for you to reach your minimum. If what you want is for people to be able to vote unrestricted, and we changed it from 3 to 5, isn't 5 tokens per dream somewhat of a compromise?

Not reacting to your suggestion in the end, but 100% aggree, what went down with the change in max number of tokens and the lack of communication about funding availability were huge mistakes. Communicating more clearly - and running the math earlier - would have enabled dreamers to be realistic.

Isn’t that exactly what I said?

Maybe I missunderstood: "We gotta get real about these rules... if they're ignored haphazardly then.." - for me it sounded like someone does anything arbitrarily here, and i don't agree with it.

I agree with you in general, but I somewhat did not perceive this procedure as something that was intended to stay for the upcoming years. While there could have been better systems to address the issue, I have gotten the impression that this was the solution this year - aiming to make things easier for dreamers who already need to act on very short notice and with a lot of insecurities this year.

Given the general participation of a majority of ticket holders so far (ticket bazaar is the only thing that sparks interaction...), I am more than happy to direct tickets towards highly enthusiastic individuals who bring something proper..stuff.

(Oh but I still checked my dream, as I guide one of those 1-euro-dreams and my dreamer already has their ticket. I hope not every self-funded-/1-euro-dreamer stands under the suspicion to have a dream to get a ticket).

If they care, tell them to contact diarmaiddeburca@gmail.com - it is a known bug and can be fixed manually.

yes, i understand, but then we would have set the min. higher, because we would have assumed we can reach a higher goal. last minute changes from one side do not take in account what others think.

anyways, thanks for the last changes on deleting the min funding. that’s awesome :) hope next year we wont be so stressed in all these decision mking.

Sorry, I meant if the dream guides ignore the rules (when approving the dreams). Though, I guess it doesn’t make much difference, but I kinda expect some of the dreamers to not read, not understand, misinterpret, or otherwise not follow the rules.

The limit on the maximum number of tokens a participant can use on any one dream is primarily there to cause participants to consider more/other dreams than just their own or their camps. Personally, I am very strongly in favour of that.
